Platinum rarely does new collaborations, so it’s interesting to see what shops they choose to partner with. “Kusatsu” is an original limited edition fountain pen sold by Hi Note, a stationery specialty store located in Gunma Prefecture, and the pen is named for Kusatsu (the town) and inspired by the Yubatake onsen (the hot springs spa).

From marketing copy: Inspired by the Yubatake hot springs in Kusatsu, this original design features a blue-green barrel with gold glitter and a milky white cap and end finial reminiscent of hot spring steam, with gold trim. The nib is engraved with a hot spring symbol ♨ , providing a smooth and pleasant writing experience.

Rarity and Availability

I’m unable to find information about the number of pieces made for Hi Note, but the pen is available as of July 2025 from several eBay sellers in Japan, priced from $390-$430. It seems to have been available in F, M, and B nibs.
