Platinum x Shumibun

I learned about these Platinum x Shumibun editions while browsing Pensachi. They offer the titles “Bordeaux Red” and “Frost Blue.” After searching the names, I found this post on Fountain Pen Network, which identified the shop, Bungo Shuumi No Hako. The links are broken, but if you further search part of the url (shumibun), you end up here.

Shumibun is a club with stationery boxes and a magazine. You can still find the Frost Blue in their online shop, but you can’t put it in the cart.

These two models, “Bordeaux Rose” and “Frost Blue,” show up on eBay if you are lucky enough to find a seller who lists them correctly. It is easy to be duped on the “Bordeaux Rose,” so make sure you verify.

Bordeaux Rose

The “Bordeaux Rose” has a standard Platinum #3776 Century Bourgogne Red body. But what makes it special is the trim. While the Bourgogne features either rhodium plated or gold trim, the “Bordeaux Rose” has a rose/pink gold nib and rose/pink gold trim.

Frost Blue

The “Frost Blue” is easier to identify: the color is the standard Chartres Blue, but the body is moulded into the Nice shape. The “Frost Blue” features a rhodium plated nib and trim.

Rarity and Availability

Shop collaborations with Japanese brands/stores are hard to purchase outside Japan. Both JP-Select and Izumi Pen purchase rare shop editions for resale. But if you buy from resellers, expect to pay at least $100 more than the original list price. A cheaper option is a proxy service like White Rabbit. A proxy buyer will purchase the Pen and mail it to you for a fee and shipping costs. Alternatively, set up a mail forwarding service like Blackship to purchase, and send the pen to a Japanese address. Blackship charges the buyer a percentage and forwarding costs to ship from Japan.

I have only seen these editions sold out on Pensachi. Neither has come across r/Pen_Swap in the time I have been tracking them.
