Collaboration

The Platinum #3776 Century x Usagiya Jeans Blue edition is a collaboration with Usagiya, a stationery store in Japan. Usagiya’s logo is a stylized rabbit, which appears on the nibs or finials of limited edition Usagiya pens. In 2020 Usagiya launched a webstore, but they do not ship overseas. For some tips on how to buy from Usagiya outside Japan, see the LePens blog.

The Platinum #3776 Century x Usagiya Jeans Blue sometimes appears as “Indigo City Jeans Blue” on eBay. Depending on the translator app, it will appear as “City of Indigo Jean Style”. It retailed at 20,000 yen, but you can expect to pay over $300 on the resale market.

Why “Jeans Blue” or “Indigo City”? Usagiya is located within Okayama Prefecture, the same region as Kojima, birthplace of Japanese denim. Japanese indigo denim is world-renowned, and Jeans Street in Kojima is the place to visit for premium denim. If you are looking for an ink to match your “Indigo City,” Lennon Tool Bar has a whole line dedicated to the shades of indigo.

The body is a nearly opaque navy blue with a matte finish, which has a smooth, satiny feel. The section appears to be the non-matte Chartres Blue. The trim and nib are rose gold plated, though washed out photos will make it appear to be rhodium plated, like the image below. But there is only one trim, the rose gold.

Although there are few images of the Indigo City Jeans Blue online, there is an unboxing video on Youtube.

The nib is etched with the Usagiya rabbit. It looks like a Pokémon.

Rarity and Availability

Shop collaborations with Japanese brands and stores are hard to purchase outside of Japan. If you know a release is coming, you can hire a proxy or find a reseller. Both JP-Select and Izumi Pen will often purchase rare shop collaborations and resell them, but expect to pay at least $100 more than the original list price.

eBay is a good place to start searching for this pen. Alternatively, check the subreddit r/Pen_Swap. Prices may range from $250-350.
