A Closer Look At…Digimon 20th Anniversary
The Digimon 20th Anniversary x Platinum fountain pen is the second in our “A Closer Look” series.
Meet the Digimon 20th Anniversary x Platinum fountain pen! I recently picked this up from an Instagram pen sale and I’m excited to see it in person. I’ll be honest…I don’t know much about Digimon. I just collect Platinum pens. I’m pretty sure I saw the cartoon at some point, but I’m a Pokémon gal (and I’ve got the sterling silver Pilot x Pokémon Pikachu pen to prove it!).
Digimon 20th Anniversary x Platinum Pen
The Digimon 20th Anniversary OmegaMon fountain pen is a media promotion between Platinum Pen Japan and Bandai. It was available in the Sun-Star Bandai store in December 2019 for pre-order, with a release date of 2020.
Packaging
The outer sleeve features the OmegaMon head in profile with some nice gold foil decoration. The inner box displays a symbol which appears to be (based on a quick Google search) the crest for friendship mixed with the crest for courage. The inner box also has gold foil decoration.
Pen
The body, cap, and end caps of the pen are a pearlescent white with tiny speckles of glitter. There are two main images on the body, one on each side: the OmegaMon solo, confronting twin heads of War Grey Mon and Metal Galle Mon, all screened in gold. Stylized bands with symbols flank the heads. The pen has a 14k gold nib and gold trim.
The cap features Kenji Watanabe’s signature, also screened in gold. The cap band spells out DIGITAL MONSTER.
The top endcap displays the friendship/courage crest. The nib is beautifully etched with the friendship/courage crest repeated from the inner box and top end cap. Written above the crest is OMEGA.
Availability
I was able to pick this up in great condition for $200, and you can sometimes find it on Mercari Japan for $200-250. Expect to pay twice that much on eBay.
