Overview
From marketing copy for the Platinum Fuji Unkei Uroko-Gumo: “To celebrate the release of Platinum Penʼs flagship model, the #3776 CENTURY, a series of fountain pens called “Fuji Five Lakes” was created from 2011 to 2016, followed by the “Fuji Shunkei” series from 2017 to 2021, which showcased the beautiful seasonal scenes of Mt. Fuji on the body of the pens using an advanced cutting technique. And now in 2023, a new series is being introduced: “Fuji Unkei.”
Inspired by the incredible scenery of Mt. Fuji surrounded by wispy clouds, this series is designed to capture this natural wonder using a variety of decorative techniques.” More information can be found in Platinum Japan’s news release.
Uroko-Gumo (2023)
From marketing copy: “The debut pen in the Fuji Unkei series is the “Uroko-Gumo.”
The body of the new fountain pen has been cut into an irregular pattern in contrast to the regular patterns featured on the Fuji Shunkei series in order to capture the beauty and uniqueness of cirrocumulus clouds (“Uroko-Gumo” in Japanese). Incorporating slight indentations on the body produces a complex play of light and reflection on the pen body, creating a natural, beautiful aesthetic. The shadows cast by light passing through the body of the pen are reminiscent of cirrocumulus clouds and are sure to captivate.
For the first time in the #3776 CENTURY series, Uroko-Gumo features a bi-colored design with different colors for the cap and body. The stylish dark blue-grey cap represents the surface of Mt. Fuji colored by seasons and time while the contrasting clear body features an intricately carved design.”
This first pen in the series is limited to 3000pcs.

Kasumi (2024)
From marketing copy: Fuji Unkei “Kasumi” focuses on the rich natural greenery that can be glimpsed at the foot of Mt. Fuji through the mist, and the cap and gripping section are finished in a calming green color. The barrel is carved to reproduce the Kasumi – Mon (Kasumi pattern) that has been seen on picture scrolls and folding screen paintings since ancient times. Kasumi, meaning haze or mist, is inspired by the majestic form of Mt. Fuji glimpsed through the mist at dawn (as well as the surrounding mountains and the activities of the people) as depicted in “View at Dawn from Isawa in Kai Province” from the ukiyo-e series thirty-six views of Mt. Fuji by Katsushika Hokusai.
By connecting small circular cuts, we expressed the appearance of waving mist. This continuous yet irregularly arranged pattern gives a complex contrast and shine, creating a unique fountain pen never seen before.
This second pen in the series is limited to 3000pcs.

Kinu-Gumo (2025)
From marketing copy: Celebrate the majestic beauty of Mount Fuji and the ethereal elegance of cirrus clouds with the Platinum #3776 Century Fuji Unkei Kinu-Gumo Fountain Pen—a masterfully crafted limited edition that blends Japanese artistry, advanced engraving, and poetic inspiration. Limited to only 2,500 pieces worldwide, this is the third release in Platinum’s acclaimed Fuji Unkei series.
Following the success of the Fuji Five Lakes (2011–2016) and Fuji Shunkei (2017–2021) collections, the Fuji Unkei series was born in 2023 to express the dynamic beauty of Mt. Fuji in harmony with surrounding cloudscapes. “Kinu-Gumo”, meaning “silken clouds” in Japanese, captures the delicate, airy texture of cirrus clouds—thin, wispy formations that resemble flowing silk threads.
Intricate Craftsmanship and Symbolism
Kinu-Gumo features two refined metal engraving techniques: guilloché engraving and V-carving, used to evoke the layered, shifting nature of clouds. By incorporating unengraved areas, the design gives a three-dimensional effect—bringing the sky to life in silver tones that dance with the light. The signature Mt. Fuji emblem is elegantly engraved in the finial dome, along with the individual limited edition serial number.
Exclusive Packaging and Ink
Each Kinu-Gumo pen comes in a luxurious presentation box inspired by the swirling clouds of its namesake.

Fuji Unkai (2026)
From the marketing copy: “Platinum Penʼs flagship #3776 CENTURY inspired the “Fuji Five Lakes” (2011‒2016), created to commemorate its launch, followed by “Fuji Shunkei” (2017‒2021), which expressed Mt. Fujiʼs seasonal beauty through masterful engraving. In 2023, a new series was born: “Fuji Unkei.” Inspired by the scenery created by Mt. Fuji and the clouds drifting around it, the series combined the first bicolor design ever used on the #3776 CENTURY with intricate engraved detailing. As its final release, we are proud to present Unkai (“Sea of Clouds”).
For this concluding edition, we chose the magnificent sea of clouds surrounding Mt. Fuji as its motif. Layers of clouds spread silently into the distance as Fuji rises serenely above them. This ever-changing yet tranquil scene of majestic Japanese nature is captured in a single fountain pen.
Limited to just 1,500 pieces worldwide, “Unkai” is the final release in the Fuji Unkei series. This edition captures the delicate elegance of cirrus clouds with an intricate blend of guilloche and V-blade engraving on a translucent resin body.
For the cap and grip, colors were chosen to evoke Mt. Fujiʼs mountainside as it quietly reveals itself in the clear early mornings of autumn and winter, illuminated by the rising sun. On the barrel, lens-cut facets and carved grooves portray a sea of clouds spreading in layered formations, both delicately and dynamically. Changing with the light and the angle of view, its expression recalls a sea of clouds shimmering in the morning sun. Each time you hold the pen, the dreamlike landscape of Mt. Fuji rises vividly at your fingertips.
At the heart of this pen is a rhodium-plated 14K gold nib, offering Platinum’s signature smooth writing experience. The pen also features a domed finial with an engraved serial number, paying tribute to Mt. Fuji itself. To commemorate the release of the #3776 CENTURY Fuji Unkei Series “Unkai,” a special 20ml bottle of ink, “Fuji-no -Ebizome,” is included. The color is inspired by the moment when Mt. Fuji is veiled in the dim light of twilight, its slopes sinking into grape-red hues. As the light shifts, the lustrous reddish-purple gently softens, revealing a muted tone with a subtle green nuance. It evokes Mt. Fuji at dusk, whose expression changes with every passing moment.”
Retails for $620USD and limited to 1500pcs.

Rarity and Availability
So far there is not much hype surrounding the Platinum Fuji Unkei series release. Many fans of the brand criticize the conservative color choices made for most wide releases. While this release is a bi-color pen, the colors are standard to the Platinum line up, and the molding of the body is similar to the pens in the Shunkei series. The Uroko-Gumo is expected in September 2023 and retails for $495USD. The Kasumi, released in 2024, also retails for $495USD. Both 2025 and 2026 saw significant price hikes, so expect to pay over $600 for Platinum pen editions in the US going forward.
