The Platinum #3776 Century standard fountain pen was “born” in 1978. It received its first full model redesign in 2011, with a black or burgundy body trimmed in gold (and the latter color won the Japan Stationery of the Year Award in 2012). The revamp was called the #3776 Century, to distinguish from the previous generation. In 2015, rhodium trim became available. For a full history of Platinum Pens, see the history on the Platinum Pens Japan website.

The current standard lineup of the Platinum #3776 Century is partially inspired by French locations/themes. Four colors are available with rhodium trim, and five are available with gold trim. An opaque black model is available with gold trim only, and three colors (blue, red, opaque black) offer a music nib option.
