Wagner Pen Club

If you don’t live in Japan, you’ve probably thought about the Wagner Pen Club with envy, perpetually on the outside, excluded from all those Platinum x Wagner limited editions. It’s difficult to find information about it, a website for it, or pictures of their products. You’ve probably set up eBay alerts, saved posts on Instagram, and maybe even asked your favorite pen scalper to get you one. If you’re really tenacious, you’ve saved the Japanese characters for “fountain pen” to enter into Japanese auction sites. You’ve scrolled endlessly through through the morass, hoping to get lucky. Maybe you don’t even know which editions to look for!

We’re here to help, at least with colors and descriptions. There are no promo photos for the Platinum x Wagner Pen Club editions, which makes it difficult to post pictures here.

Platinum #3776 Century x Wagner Editions

The first collaboration between the Platinum #3776 Century and Wagner appeared in 2015, a nice (Nice!) emerald green. Every Wagner Pen Club edition features a unique color/texture combination and a nib etched with a design and the year. There are two Wagner Pen Club releases each year, one for the Discussion Room and one for the Pen Trading Show, though it’s hard to know which is which, and they are often different models of pen. The same model will sometimes feature different nib designs corresponding to the nib size (so one design for EF, F, another for M, B, etc.). I’m fairly certain that all the Platinum #3776 Century x Wagner Pen Club editions have rose gold trim. The cap band on each features some variation on “WAGNER” and the year of release.

Below I’ve listed the colors and years to look for. Happy hunting!

2015

Emerald green with a Nice style body. The nib reads “2015 WAGNER 10th ANNIVERSARY.”

2016

Royal purple cap with lilac body, both Nice style. There are two nib designs, but both read “2016 WAGNER 11th ANNIVERSARY.”

2017

This year is pretty confusing. There are several nib designs out there, and they appear on up to four different bodies in photos, so I’m not entirely sure the scope of offerings this year. But, here are some possibilities:

Matte dark brown translucent (nearly opaque) body. The music nib reads “WAGNER 2017 14k MUSIC” while other sizes feature a design.

Opaque emerald green with lamé glitter. The nib design features a turtle and reads “17th Pen Trading in Tokyo.”

Two other nibs appear, one with a rooster/cock, the other with a phoenix. The sections in the photos are a clear turquoise blue and a matte translucent red. I don’t know if these were additional pen bodies offered this year, or if the nibs were swapped onto other bodies.

2018

The widely sought-after version this year was a turquoise Nice (cap and body) with the Nice model’s matte sandblasting. There were three nib options, the SF and M featuring a Shiba Inu holding a pen, and the F featuring a lion-dog face. There were 150pcs available and they were gone quickly. This pen is a unicorn among Platinum #3776 Century collectors, and my eBay alert finally paid off. The following is MY photo!

It looks like there were two options this year, but one was perhaps a pre-production model with a smaller release? Google Translate tried its best. This other version was a turquoise demonstrator, without the Nice cutting and sandblasting. I have seen this pen in someone’s collection, so I know some of them are out there.

2019

There were two options this year: The first is a salmon pink demonstrator, somewhere between a red and the Tarumi Apricot in color. There were two nib designs for this color, one with an etched drawing, the other plain, available in EF and SF.

The second option is a yellow demonstrator. The nib was available in SF and M, each featuring a different etched drawing.

2020

This year brought another two Platinum #3776 Century pens from Wagner. One is a matte, nearly opaque light blue. The nib was etched with a stylized man and stars.

The other is an opaque lime green sort of color. The nib was etched with a different drawing.

2021

Wagner only released one Platinum #3776 Century this year: a greige (grey beige) Nice model. The nib featured etched roses. This year came with a rose gold converter. I was surprised to see the Nice body again, as 2018 was supposed to be the last year to have it, as the Nice model has section cracking issues. (I have six pens with the Nice body and I haven’t observed any cracking yet, but I also haven’t roughed them up.)

Platinum x Wagner 2021

2022

Wagner only released one Platinum #3776 Century again this year: a white Nice model called “White Tiger”. The nib features an etched tiger head. The trim is rhodium. The cap band reads “WAGNER since 2005”.

2023

Wagner only released one Platinum #3776 Century again this year: a matte blue/green and pink model called “Holland Lop”. The nib features an etched bunny. The trim is rose gold. The cap band reads “WAGNER since 2005”. The cap finial, lower finial, and section are a cute pink. The bunny references the Year of the Rabbit; the rabbit is a symbol of luck and prosperity.

2024

Wagner only released one Platinum #3776 Century again this year: a matte blue sandblasted Nice model. The nib features an etched dragon to celebrate the Year of the Dragon and the characters ’24. The trim is rhodium-plated. The cap band reads “WAGNER since 2005”. The cap finial, lower finial, and section are a beautiful deep blue/green. The dragon symbolizes wealth, success, and nobility.

Availability and Rarity

It’s hard to get them new, it’s hard to get them used. Check eBay, r/Pen_Swap, Virtual Pen Show, Mercari, Rakuten, Yahoo Auctions JP, and private sales on Instagram. Starting last year both JP-Select and Izumi made a few brand new pcs available, but with a significant upcharge. You can sometimes find them in the consignment sections of Chatterley Luxuries, Pen Realm, and Peyton Street Pens too.

Good luck!
